People want a sense of

People want a sense of control over their own neighbourhood. Not a
new tier of neighbourhood government, but new powers over the
problems that confront them when they step outside their front door –
issues like litter, graffiti and anti-social behaviour.That is why we will
offer neighbourhoods a range of powers from which they can choose,

I like the idea of creating a partnership between people and those who can help reduce the amounts of anti-social behaviour described here.

In Lewisham, where I'm a councillor, we have developed a website www.lovelewisham.org where people can upload their digital photos of graffiti, fly tipping and persistent litter. And if they have a camera phone you can download a file to your phone or pda and send the photo directly from the mobile devise.

The council then uses SMS to tell you when we've taken action, or where that's not possible why.

So far people seem to like it.
